Entryway Organization for Busy Families: Create a Happier Home Starting at the Door

Have you ever noticed how a messy entranceway can make your entire morning feel scattered? Or sink your mood at the end of a long day?

When your entry-way is clutter-free and welcoming, it sets a positive tone for the rest of your home. I’m excited to share how keeping this space tidy not only streamlines your day but also contributes to a happier home!

Why a Functional Entryway Matters

The entryway is your family’s daily launchpad and the first space you return to at the end of the day. It’s more than a transitional area—it’s where the atmosphere for your entire home is set. Remember the time those misplaced keys or pile of shoes caused a major mood shift among family members? Yep, me too :)

What You Need in a Great Entryway…

  1. System for Shoes!

Too many shoes by the front door can instantly sour anyone’s mood. They create a tripping hazard, look cluttered, and are hard to clean up quickly when having visitors over. Whether you have beautiful built-ins, this nifty shelf from IKEA, or a simple tray for shoe storage, you can get a handle on shoes by creating a routine or “system” fit for your family.

Determine how many pairs you want to allow in the entryway by evaluating the storage space available as well as how many people are in your household. As part of your family’s chores, assign someone to be the “shoe police”—whose job is to hold members of the household accountable if too many shoes are left behind.

  1. Family Command Center

Centralize essential items like keys, mail, and daily reminders in one spot to avoid frantic searches. In our small apartment where the entrance is straight into the kitchen, the command center is a mail key holder from Amazon and a whiteboard from Walmart on our fridge. We hang our keys and store paper in the mail key holder. I also keep a couple pens and a notepad there to leave reminders for my husband. :) The whiteboard on our fridge is perfect for grocery lists, meal planning, and reminders about events happening throughout the week! A command center keeps me and my husband on the same page & happier as a result.

  2. Containers Tailored to Your Lifestyle

Containers come in all shapes & sizes, and can be used in all different ways as a result! You can create a more functional space with less than $100 of product, or spend a bit more if you’re looking for a beautiful aesthetic in addition to functionality. I love these clear bins from Walmart because even without reading the label, family members can see what’s inside. Baskets can also be a great way to add some texture to your entryway while with practical storage.

This client has two daughters who needed storage for their violins. We used this basket from Walmart as the solution. It fit perfect & can be versatile as their family’s needs change throughout the years.

May your troubles be less and your blessings be more and nothing but happiness come through your door.
